Positive Connections professionally trained staff provides education, peer support and one to one mentoring in meeting the goals of each child.

EDUCATION ABOUT EMOTIONAL/MENTAL/BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS
During our 10 weekly sessions, children learn information to help them better understand their or their loved one’s emotional/mental/behavioral difficulties. Staff works with each child to increase awareness, support and develop coping skills to deal with potential difficulties. Parents or guardians will participate in a group orientation process to receive an overview of Positive Connections, as well as programming through NAMI and BBBS.
PEER SUPPORT
Caring staff creates an environment where children can develop skills on how to provide and receive support from peers, friends and family. Positive Connections strives to help children understand that they are not alone, that other children and families face similar challenges.
ONE TO ONE MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS
A minimum of 12 month mentoring program, through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio, offers another opportunity for children to develop their support network by way of an adult role model outside the family. Each child will spend time with their Big Brother Big Sis ter doing things that friends enjoy: playing in the park, going to the movies, talking on the phone. All mentors receive special training and all parents are involved in the process of selecting their child’s mentor.
